When we first met, our clients shared with us why they hated their kitchen: very dated, dark, barely functioning appliances, insufficient storage & countertops, no direct connection to the dining room, constant traffic in the tight hall way in front of the French door to the basement, closed off from other adjacent spaces…
To solve all existing problems listed above and below, our plan dramatically reconfigured the space, enlarging it visually with wall of glass: 2 French doors, large triple window. They bring in abundant daylight and the beautiful backyard. Tall custom cabinets with double access flank the new opening to the dining room.
Sink wall: Blanco Precis 30’’ sink in Anthracite, Torino Faucet in Satin Nickel, AirSwitch in Black, Miele Dishwasher, Custom Shaker Cabinets by Adelphi Kitchens.
More things our clients hated in the old kitchen: the peninsula blocked access to the to the rest of the room, not enough space to eat in the kitchen and the kid’s homework area was stuffed in front of the sliding door.
The beautifully shaped kitchen island now invites family and friends to cook and eat together. The kids can also do their homework at other times of the day. And this island not only anchors the room, it also makes it very easy to move in the space. Induction cook top cooks faster than gas and it’s very safe for kids. Efficiently vented hood ensures clean air and the second sink is great for entertaining. Its faucet with a pull out spray can act as a pot filler as well.
On island: 36’’ GE Profile Black Induction Cooktop, 42’’ Zephyr Island Hood, Elkay Bar Sink in Black, Blanco Torino Faucet in Satin Nickel.
The existing former laundry closet was another sore point for our clients. After the washer and dryer were moved to the 2nd floor, it became stuffed to the brim, hard to organize and access storage space.
The same space (completely rebuilt due to water damage) is the perfect home for the refrigerator, tall pullout pantry cabinet and the single oven cabinet. To its right: the new mini mudroom we’re able to carve out of the garage, sorely missing before. The entire load bearing wall between the kitchen and the den was removed, visually enlarging both rooms. A peek at the brick fireplace wall warms the space. 90’’ long open pantry cabinet between the support columns organizes food, wine and cookbooks, all visible to the cook.
Thermador 36’’ Fully Integrated French Door Refrigerator with Custom Panels, Miele 30’’ Convection Wall Oven, on island’s left end: Miele 24’’ Speed Oven
View of the new kitchen from the den (this wasn’t possible before). Symmetry organizes the space beautifully: the French doors flank the sink wall and in turn, tall shallow wall cabinets frame the triple window, organize daily necessities in style.
View of the kitchen from the dining room: The distinctive look with unique details of this space starts with imaginative, fresh design and can then only be achieved with high quality custom cabinets as shown here and made by Adelphi Kitchens Inc.
Another view of the kitchen from the den: framed by the support columns. Greatly improved multi-zone lighting (all dimmable) suits all needs and moods.
Another peek from the dining room: beautiful new floor of 3’’wide Rift Cut/Quarter Sawn White Oak finished in Driftwood stain now unites all spaces on the main level. All elements of the new space – distinctive architectural envelope with wall of glass, personalized custom cabinets, 2’’ thick cherry ledges as accents, fully integrated appliances, many hidden storage solutions, hand forged hardware, gorgeous Pietra Grey marble countertops, floor and wall finishes complete the extraordinary before and after transformation of this kitchen.
